Prayer

We believe that we serve a prayer answering God.  This does not mean that God is our personal genie granting our every wish.  Prayer helps us to seek out God's perfect will for us and allows us to communicate with God on a personal level.

Prayer also allows us to intercede for others.  We strenghten ourselves as a ministry when we lift one another up in prayer.

Prayer can also be used simply to glorify God and to thank him for all the blessings that He has already provided for us.  When we pray it is important to lift up God's name and give Him the glory that He deserves.

Our ministry has committed to fasting on Tuesdays as a congregation.  This does not mean we should only fast on one day of the week or that fasting should become another routine.

During our time of fasting, we lift up God, one another, our ministry and our world in prayer.  Members fast for one meal, two meals or the whole day as lead by God.  Fasting is not meant to be a diet or simply an exercise in skipping meals.  Christians should fast to bring our focus on God when we are in need of his divine intervention.

1. This is consistent with the majority of fasting in the Old Testament;
         they fasted...
         a. In times of war or at the threat of it (Israel)
         b. When loved ones were sick (David)
         c. When seeking God's forgiveness (Ahab, Daniel)
         d. When seeking God's protection (Ezra)

2. This is consistent with the examples of fasting in the New Testament;
         they fasted...
         a. When dealing with temptations (Jesus)
         b. When serving the Lord (Antioch)
         c. When beginning a work for the Lord (Antioch)
         d. When selecting and appointing elders (Galatia)

3. Such fasting should be done in conjunction with prayer. For fasting, when done properly...
            1) Humbles the soul - Ps 35:13
            2) Chastens the soul - Ps 69:10
